The Signalman’s Cottage Self Catering Holidays (Sleeps 3)
Spacious and luxurious with private gardens
Hassendean Station Denholm near Jedburgh in Roxburghshire Scottish Borders TD9 8PX
In the heart of the lovely Scottish Borders Countryside, only an hour away from Edinburgh/Carlisle/Newcastle lies the former home of The Signalman for Hassendean Railway Station on the famous Waverley Route. The Station axed by Dr Beeching, abandoned and derelict but now saved and carefully restored by architectural designer Tom Pyemont and his late wife Anne Marie. Recently awarded a Highly Commended Certificate for the Renovation of Hassendean Station by National Heritage Railway Awards.
Set in its own secure gardens The Signalman’s Cottage, built in 1850, has been cleverly renovated using reclaimed pitch pine beams from The Titanic dry dock with the floors finished in natural oak and Douglas fir planking. A mix of contemporary and traditional furniture grace all of the rooms and the cosy open plan, brightly lit, level layout has been carefully arranged to enjoy the views over Minto Hills and Rubers Law.
Accommodation: Exciting light filled spaces, carefully arranged to take advantage of the open views at day and the star filled night skies– no light pollution here!
The charming Sitting Room-Dining Room (with wood burning stove) leads through a beamed archway to the fully equipped modern Kitchen. There is a Principal Double Bedroom and a further Single bedroom, a generous sized modern bathroom with shower attachment over the bath, loo, basin with an Art Deco mirror and splash back.
Gardens at front and back are fully enclosed-child + dog secure – Log Cabin in the back garden.
